Class Descriptions

Weird Science: Learners will receive a weekly package in advance of the meeting filled with supplies for a fun project and/or experiment that goes along with the STEM topic being covered. We will all do the project together live on google meet. Each 7 week session will cover multiple CA core K-6 Science standards and provide an opportunity to create strong work samples for homeschool charter participants. The facilitator for this offering is Jenny Lemker and class size is limited to 8 learners. Interested learners should sign up in advance.

Stop Motion Storytelling: Learners will write stories and illustrate them using stop motion animation techniques. The 7 week session will cover multiple CA core K-6 Language Arts Standards and provide an opportunity to create strong work samples for homeschool charter participants. The facilitator for this offering is Miranda Cameron, and interested learners should sign up in advance. (Learners will need access to a tablet or smart phone.)

Kitchen Science: Learners will explore STEM topics through cooking and baking, such as the microbial environments of sourdough, chemistry of candy-making, manipulating fractions, and more. The 7 week session will cover multiple CA core K-6 Science and Math standards. The facilitator for this offering is Moria Rogers and class size is limited to 8 learners.

Learner Led Offering: Our learners often love leading classes of their own, and this time slot is reserved for anyone in the Bungalow community who wants to share an offering with their friends. Past examples include: drawing, rocks/geology, comic book writing and illustration, drama club, show and tell, meet my pet, and baking. What do you love to do? It's up to your own imagination what you offer and we can't wait to see what you come up with!

Bungalow Business: All learners are encouraged to attend this all-community meeting during which we use ALC tools to connect in a deeper way. (e.g. "set the week," "change-up," reflections, "rose, bud, thorn", news, updates, etc). This is also the time to set future offerings and claim the "Learner Led Offering" slot.

Lego Building Challenge: Using a virtual spinner, learners will participate in a challenge (or two or three!) every week. Learners will build and show off their creations to each other, ask questions of the builder, and offer feedback/suggestions for improvement. This offering will cover multiple CA core K-6 Language Arts and STEM standards. The facilitator for this offering is Asia Lovett.

Social Time: There is no agenda to this offering other than connecting with friends. Past topics have included pet show and tell, virtual home tours, gaming, music jams and more! The facilitator hosting this meeting will vary, and there is no limit on the number of participants. Mel Cavalli will be facilitating this social hour.

Bilingual Stories: Learners will read and discuss a different children's book weekly in both English and Spanish. The 7 week session will cover multiple CA core K-6 Language Arts standards as well as providing an opportunity for Spanish Language acquisition from a native speaker. The facilitator for this offering is Brenda Quispe.
